Q : How often are hemorrhoids related to anal sex? How does anal sex affect existing hemorrhoids?

Answer :  Hello Cynthia. Anal sex does not cause hemorrhoids, but if you have hemorrhoids having anal sex can hurt or make hemorrhoids more painful. Since the rectum and anus area do not have much lubrication, the friction from anal sex can tear the thin lining of the rectum. Always lubricate the anal area with a water-based lubricant before anal sex.The other danger of having anal sex with hemorrhoids is the possibility of catching HIV (if you are not sure about your partner) since hemorrhoids can bleed. Always wear a condom before anal having anal sex. Generally, it is good to avoid anal sex untill your hemorrhoids have healed.
