Q : I have a bump that I think is an external hemorrhoid. It has been there for a few days and is a little painful. should i go to the doctor or wait and see if it goes away on it's own? If i should go to a doctor, what kind?

Answer :  Dear Jennifer A lump, or a mass of of tissue near your anus is an indication of external hemorrhoids. You may also notice pain, bleeding, or itching in that area after a bowel movement. Sometimes hemorrhoids disappear on their own, especially if you change your diet to include lots of fibre and water and exercise regularly. But an anal bump can also be a sign of anal fissure. It is always better to check with your doctor if you have a doubt. You can ask for a proctologist or a gastroenterologist at your local hospital.
