Q : I am constipated and have internal and external hemmeroids. It seems that no matter what I eat, be it fibre and all other things listed, I cannot get rid of the hemmeroids. They are not painful yet they protrude and are very uncomftable. What I want to know is, If I could somehow get rid of the constipation, would the hemmeroids just disappear on their own or would I have to take some other sort of action because they have been there for a while? If so what action should I take?

Much appreciated.
Mike.

Answer :  Hello Mike. Constipation is considered to be one of the primary causes of hemorrhoids. The hard stool puts extreme pressure on the veins in the rectum forcing them to bulge, swell or tear, or what is commonly called piles. Keeping your stools soft will definitely reduce the discomfort with your hemorrhoids. Increasing water intake, adding a fibre supplement (like wheat husk) and exercising regularly will keep your piles in check. It is difficult to say if the piles will disappear if you treat your constipation. But getting rid of constipation will definitely make your condition more bearable and reduce further damage. As for your present hemorrhoids, if they do not cause any major pain, are not bleeding or do not have any infection then you can wait to see how the high fibre diet with exercise helps you. It will take several weeks for it to show results. If you have major discomfort due to your piles then you must consult a good proctologist or a gastroenterologist to get some treatment for the hemorrhoids. For large hemorrhoids surgery is an option and there are several procedures that seem to help. You should consult your doctor to get a correct diagnosis and treatment. You will find more information on this website on hemorrhoids treatment.
